This past Thursday, Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration introduced John Collins, an individual with absolutely no medical marijuana experience, as the head of Pennsylvania’s Office of Medical Marijuana.
Starting Monday, Collins will oversee the state’s emerging medical-marijuana program, which includes regulations regarding cultivation and distribution.
Collins was employed as chief operating officer at a Florida-based pharmacy company from June 2010 to August 2013. This past April, he joined Florida’s State Health Department,
where he serves as an assistant administrator in the Division of HIV Disease.
State health secretary Karen Murphy says Collins was chosen because of his commitment and passion at the department and executive work.
Even though Collins has had no prior involvement with medical marijuana, he states his experience in a “heavily regulated medical enterprise” will help him in his new role.
